Stories of mothers caring for children with disability

This book is first for the desperate parent, hearing or thinking for the first time that something is wrong.  You have watched your child fail to meet milestones, or you have noticed sluggish feeding and activity.  You may have voiced your concerns to your doctor, only to be brushed off and returned to your private terror. Or you may have been shocked to hear words like “pervasive developmental disorder,” “autism,” or “mental retardation” from your health professional: sudden horrible words that shattered your assumption that your child was just a little lazy, a little slow to do the tasks that were so easy for brother and sister.  I want you to know that the world has not ended, that your child will grow and develop and blossom in ways you cannot imagine.  This book is to give you hope from women who have been in your situation, from families who have coped with your sadness, from children with disabilities who have prospered and loved and given so much to the families that cried for them.
